The 10X approach

10X is easier than 2X

We seem to be entering the age of “10X Is Easier Than 2X”, as Dan Sullivan and Dr. Benjamin Hardy argue in their book — and that age coincides with the arrival of AI. The claim runs against our everyday perceptions of the world, the laws of physics, and it hasn't really been proven. Our view is simply that there's a good chance it is occasionally valid.

01

A trial we take deadly seriously

The Orunmila project is based on our belief that 10X thinking can be valid — and our goal is to prove it can be, at least in the development of Orunmila's knowledge management software. You're more than welcome to join us in this trial: one we aim to take “deadly seriously”, professionally, and relying on proven science rather than hype.

02

What 10X actually asks of us

Here is a shortened version of the 10X guidance Orunmila intends to follow (a more in-depth view is available 1:1). The world wasn't created yesterday, so some of this may feel familiar from the past — we've simply taken it less literally until now.

  • Growth does not come from doing more.
  • Extraordinary progress comes from thinking differently — from letting go, and redesigning how we operate.
  • It applies to organisations and to people alike: every next level of effort requires a different version of us.
  • A company — or a person — cannot grow into the future while clinging to who they have been.
  • A 10X goal demands a complete shift in mindset, habits, and identity; change is unavoidable, so we confront it rather than manage around it.
  • The desired future should define your goals, not the other way around.
  • Small goals make many paths seem viable, which feeds overthinking and procrastination — a 10X goal quickly rules out most approaches, leaving only what truly matters.
  • 10X thinking raises our standards.

How it applies to Orunmila

For us, 10X is not a slogan — it's a filter. Our goal to be among the leaders in comprehensive knowledge management software is what defines us, and it rules out most of the incremental paths we might otherwise drift toward. Paired with AI-native development and Intent-to-Production, 10X is how we decide what is worth building at all.

With thanks

We thank Anne M for her summary, “Key Lessons I Learnt from 10X Is Easier Than 2X”, posted on Medium, which we drew on above — and Dan Sullivan and Dr. Benjamin Hardy for the original work.
